All the shops are closed today.
But what is it about this day?
Is it some sacred holiday
Or are the shops always this way?
"It's out of season," so they say.
"Better just come back in May! Then the shops won't be this way."
"Okay," I say, then walk away.

This was inspired by my April trip to Block Island, RI. As stated in the poem, none of the little shops were open. I didn't mind much; had they been open, I would've wasted a bunch of time shopping for souveniers instead of enjoying the island's natural beauty.
